The Guide Changer, also known to as the Guide Changing Machine,[1] is a gimmick that appears in Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall. It is a device used to change the user's assigned Guide.

Physical appearance

The Guide Changers strongly resemble the lower half of Nano Stations. As such, they look like high-tech and dark blue, octagon-shape blocks. Additionally, on the top edge of the Guide Changers are orange and dark blue rims, with four small computer screens attached to them. On each side of these computer screens are also square-shaped pads with hand-shaped blue markings on them. On the bottom of the Guide Changers, they also have retractable black feet that are held in placed by telescopic black and blue bars. Lastly, on their top surfaces are a holographic projector displaying a column of the following symbols for each of the four guides in this order before fading away for a few moments: an orange jawbreaker for Edd; a Monkey Minion emblem for Mojo Jojo; a Plumber symbol for Ben; and the DexLabs logo for Dexter.

Gameplay

In gameplay, the Guide Changers are used by the Avatar to change their current guide. This gimmick can be found in major areas and can be utilized at any time. Because proper guides are first assigned after clearing the Future/Academy however, the Guide Changers do not appear until after the player has cleared those regions. As an alternative to the Guide Changers, the player can contact one of the actual guide NPCs, which will give them a "GUIDE CHANGER" option when interacting with them.

Regardless of whether the player choses the Guide Changer or the guides directly, they will end up on a menu that showcases the four available guides in the game and a brief summary of them, along with a brief instruction bit about this feature by Computress. Notably, when choosing a new guide, the player gains access to new Guide Missions, items rewarded from Guide Rewards, and new character interactions. However, the player will not be able to use any Guide Rewards given to them by one guide once they have switched to another guide. That said, the player can keep the items and use them again if they switch back to the guide that gave them out.[1]

When making their choice for a new guide, the player has to click on the empty block in the description above the chosen guide and then press "CHANGE GUIDE" in the lower right corner of the available menu. A brief warning message will then appear on the screen that tells the player the consequences of this choice. From here, the player can either choose to proceed with their choice or cancel it. Originally, using the Guide Changer would cost the player some Fusion Matter, and the amount of Fusion Matter it cost would increase the more often they changed guides.[2][3] However, since then, using the Guide Changer feature has become free of charge.[2]
