The Totems are objects that appear in Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall. They are a network of old monuments that serve as an ancient defense against Fuse.[1]

Physical appearance

The Hanna-Barbera-based hieroglyphics on a Totem (from top to bottom): Top Cat, Scooby-Doo, Fred Flintstone, Yogi Bear, George Jetson, and Quick Draw McGraw, from OpenFusion.

Each Totem is identical in appearance, appearing as a tall stone obelisk on a square stone base with a smaller stone obelisk on each corner. The central obelisk on each Totem also has a column displaying six hieroglyph-like symbols on each side. Curiously, these symbols resemble Hanna-Barbera characters, namely Top Cat, Scooby-Doo, Fred Flintstone, Yogi Bear, George Jetson and Quick Draw McGraw.

Fusion Invasion

The Past

In the Past, Gwen discovered from the Book of Prophecy that the Earth had a magical defense system in the form of a network of ancient Totems that could protect it from Lord Fuse, and so sought to reactivate it before Fuse could destroy them.[2][3] With Gwen's aid, the Avatar located the first Totem in Crystalline Caverns and activated it using the power from the Spine of the Book of Prophecy. This caused the Avatar to be imbued with the "Power of Destiny" from the Spine, which caused the Spine to vanish. However, it also gave them the ability to activate Totems by touching them.[3] As a test, Gwen had the Avatar go to a Totem they had located in the Canopy to see if they could activate it. The test proved a success, as the Totem was activated when the Avatar touched it.[4]

The next Totem was located at Morbucks Towers. Though Doomdozers attempted to destroy it, the Avatar got rid of them and activated the Totem, thus rendering it indestructible.[5] Soon after, the Avatar discovered another Totem at Mojo's Volcano by coincidence when Mojo Jojo lied about finding one to get the Avatar to help him, and activated it as well.[6]

Gwen soon found the next Totem in the Hani-Baba Temple, and sent the Avatar there to activate it. However, having recently lost the Power of Destiny, they could not activate it. Instead, they took out the Timber Hulks nearby who had spotted the Totem.[7] After regaining their powers though, the Avatar returned to the Totem and was able to activate it.[8] Hoss Delgado soon after pinpointed a Totem in Devil's Bluff, which the Avatar found and subsequently activated.[9]

The next Totem in Nowhere was soon found by Fowl Foes. As they fought over it though, the Avatar arrived and destroyed the Fusion Monsters before turning to the Totem and activating it.[10] The Avatar soon after found another Totem in Steam Alley and activated it after completing a deal with Vilgax.[11] Later, the Avatar found another Totem in the Nowhere Triangle. This time though, by using some Magic Tree Sap provided by the Magic Tree to activate the Totem, the Avatar was successful in simultaneously activating all the Totems across the world.[12] With their network up and running, the Totems were able to detect the presence of Fusion Gwen, who plotted to deactivate all the Totems. However, the Avatar foiled her plans.[13]
