Max Tennyson,^[1][2] better known as Grandpa Max, is a NPC in Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall. He is a human and the grandfather of Ben and Gwen. He is also a legendary^[3] former member of a secret intergalactic government organization known as the Plumbers, within of which he is regarded as its greatest living member.^[1][4]

When Planet Fusion began its invasion of the Earth, Max would use all his resources as a former Plumber to obtain whatever information he could about Planet Fusion. Partnering with Dexter and Professor Utonium, Max now helps with research, obtaining various samples and other info to help the heroes learn more about the enemy.^[1]

Physical appearance

Max is a slightly plump, light-skinned elderly human with short and combed gray hair, dark eyebrows, and dark eyes. For attire, he wears a red and orange Hawaiian shirt over a white undershirt, dark blue jeans, and brown shoes.

Fusion Invasion

The Academy

Max was at Mt. Neverest to congratulate the player on their graduation.

The Past

To help fight the Fusion Invasion, Max is lending all of his Plumber knowledge to aid Dexter and Professor Utonium in learning more about Planet Fusion and its inhabitants. Thus Max is currently working on a satellite to survey and spy on Planet Fusion. Fuse is all too aware of this plot, and constantly sends his forces to sabotage Max's project.

While retrieving a battery needed for the satellite, Max not only finds the negative battery missing, but he also finds out that Ben's old evil alien form, Ghostfreak, and his people are involved with Fuse after he spared their planet, Anurphaetos, a long time ago. In return for his mercy, the Ectonurites have promised to aid Fuse in his plot to invade Earth. To defend Earth from this possible secondary invasion, Max has set up a field that will alert him if an Ectonurite does decide to land on Earth.

Grandpa Max is stationed alongside Numbuh One and The Scotsman in the ruins of Townsville Park. He studies the giant Fissure torn in the middle of the park which is the area's Infected Zone. He suspects that Fuse is trying to awaken an ancient beast lying deep inside the Fissure. Many of Max's missions involve travelling into the Infected Zone to impede Fuse's efforts. It was also mentioned he is good friends with Plumber Nathan and Plumber Carol.

Origin

Magister Maxwell "Max" Tennyson originates from the 2005 American animated series Ben 10 and its follow-up series. In that media, he is one of the main characters. He is presented as a kind, easy-going and rather jovial man whose outward absent-mindedness hides his great perceptiveness and intellect. Extraordinarily brave and selfless too, Max priorities well-being of those around him more than himself. However, he is not without a reasonable stern side as seen during his mentoring of Ben during his early tenure with the Omnitrix.

Having a rich past, Max was a part of the air force when he had an alien encounter with an Anodite named Verdona (his future romantic partner). After declining Verdona's request to join her in space, Max began astronaut training and soon became a member of the Plumbers. Rising through the ranks, Max had many encounters with Vilgax and became the greatest Plumber in the Milky Way before semi-retiring. An elderly Max later took his grandchildren Ben and Gwen on a cross-country road trip where the kids got acquainted with Max's past while Max helped them battle alien threats and villains after Ben got the Omnitrix. As the years passed, Max remained a vital support to Ben and his growing group of allies against threats to the world, before eventually coming out of retirement and becoming the Magister of Earth.

Trivia

• Max is one of four NPCs who give out two Nano Missions. The other three are Dexter, Lance, and Ben.
• Max was originally going to be a guide. However, his role was given to Ben instead when he was changed to his Ben 10: Alien Force design late in development.
