The Razor Mantis is a mantis-based Fusion Monster made of leaves and other withered plants. It possesses a narrow head with brown-orange mandibles, large red eyes, and two plant stem-like antennae. The rest of its body is made of Fusion Matter contained inside a body made of twigs and leaves. It also possesses a thin red-brown prothorax with two pair of arms: one large pair on top and a tiny pair on the bottom. Notably, its top arms are serrated with very large brown leaves for raptorial forelegs while its lower arms have exceptionally tiny claws for raptorial forelegs by comparison. It also has four insectoid legs with sharp ends and light brown cover on top of them, and a very large abdomen that resembles a brown plant bud, but with a center made of Fusion Matter.

Gameplay

In gameplay, the Razor Mantises are enemy monsters that the player fights at various points in the game, either optionally, or as a part of a mission objective. To target a Razor Mantis, align the Avatar with it to make its information window appear on the top of the screen. Should its Health Bar reach zero when battling it, the Fusion Matter animating the Razor Mantis will break up, and the Razor Mantis will disintegrate.[2] The player will then automatically receive some Fusion Matter and Taros as reward. However, while the Razor Mantis's Taro reward remains consistent, its Fusion Matter reward will decrease for each level the Avatar is above the Razor Mantis; if the Avatar is six levels higher than the Razor Mantis or more, no Fusion Matter is rewarded. Sometimes, the player also automatically receives loot from defeated Razor Mantises in the form of C.R.A.T.E.s, Nano Potions, and Weapon Boosts.

In battle, the Razor Mantises target the Avatar when they get close enough. However, the higher the Avatar's level is, the closer they can get to a Razor Mantis without it attacking them. Once they begin fighting, the Razor Mantises will continue attacking until either they are destroyed, the Avatar is defeated, or the Avatar moves too far away from their point of origin. If the Avatar runs away from them, the Razor Mantises will follow them until they get too far away from their area of roaming, at which point they will return, where they will regain their full health instantly. Notably, while retreating, they will be invulnerable to attacks. Also, once defeated, a Razor Mantis will respawn after one hundred and fifty seconds.
