The Striding Lamprey is an eel-based, bipedal Fusion Monster. It possesses a mostly eel-like body made of Fusion Matter with dark blue scales covering its back and brown rock fragments filling out its underbelly, but with several extra features. Notably, it has a brown, almost lizard-like face with sharp teeth, two featureless red eyes, and a pair of light blue pectoral fins next to its chins. Next it has two digitigrade legs made of Fusion Matter, with its scales and rocks just barely covering the upper half of their gooey structure. Its thighs are also thick by comparison, while the rest of its legs are rather thin. Their feet are also covered in dark blue scales and possess two thin tones. Most notably though are the wide pair of dorsal fins that run parallel down from the top of its neck and down its back. Furthermore, extending far from the spines of each of said fins are three long and thin tendrils, allowing the monster to spread out its fins in a menacing way.

Gameplay

In gameplay, the Striding Lampreys are enemy monsters that the player fights at various points in the game, either optionally, or as a part of a mission objective. To target a Striding Lamprey, align the Avatar with it to make its information window appear on the top of the screen. Should its Health Bar reach zero when battling it, the Fusion Matter animating the Striding Lamprey will break up, and the Striding Lamprey will disintegrate.[2] The player will then automatically receive some Fusion Matter and Taros as reward. However, while the Striding Lamprey's Taro reward remains consistent, its Fusion Matter reward will decrease for each level the Avatar is above the Striding Lamprey; if the Avatar is six levels higher than the Striding Lamprey or more, no Fusion Matter is rewarded. Sometimes, the player also automatically receives loot from defeated Striding Lampreys in the form of C.R.A.T.E.s, Nano Potions, and Weapon Boosts.

In battle, the Striding Lampreys target the Avatar when they get close enough. However, the higher the Avatar's level is, the closer they can get to a Striding Lamprey without it attacking them. Once they begin fighting, the Striding Lampreys will continue attacking until either they are destroyed, the Avatar is defeated, or the Avatar moves too far away from their point of origin. If the Avatar runs away from them, the Striding Lampreys will follow them until they get too far away from their area of roaming, at which point they will return, where they will regain their full health instantly. Notably, while retreating, they will be invulnerable to attacks. Also, once defeated, a Striding Lamprey will respawn after one hundred and fifty seconds.
