The Spider Toad resembles a combination of a spider and a toad. It possesses the torso of a toad, made from Fusion Matter and with pieces of brown bark covering the surface, along with a head composed of Fusion Matter as well, but with a brown face covering it. Its face itself has two sets of featureless red eyes stacked on top of one another and a mouth with four black fangs. It also has eight brown and gray striped, toad-like legs with Fusion Matter leaking from them and three long and crocked yellow claws on each foot. It also has a spider-like abdomen that looks like a cactus with streaks and spikes covering it. Lastly, it has large dark green leaves running from its forehead and down its spine.

Gameplay

In gameplay, the Spider Toads are enemy monsters that the player fights at various points in the game, either optionally, or as a part of a mission objective. To target a Spider Toad, align the Avatar with it to make its information window appear on the top of the screen. Should its Health Bar reach zero when battling it, the Fusion Matter animating the Spider Toad will break up, and the Spider Toad will disintegrate.[2] The player will then automatically receive some Fusion Matter and Taros as reward. However, while the Spider Toad's Taro reward remains consistent, its Fusion Matter reward will decrease for each level the Avatar is above the Spider Toad; if the Avatar is six levels higher than the Spider Toad or more, no Fusion Matter is rewarded. Sometimes, the player also automatically receives loot from defeated Spider Toads in the form of C.R.A.T.E.s, Nano Potions, and Weapon Boosts.

In battle, the Spider Toads target the Avatar when they get close enough. However, the higher the Avatar's level is, the closer they can get to a Spider Toad without it attacking them. Once they begin fighting, the Spider Toads will continue attacking until either they are destroyed, the Avatar is defeated, or the Avatar moves too far away from their point of origin. If the Avatar runs away from them, the Spider Toads will follow them until they get too far away from their area of roaming, at which point they will return, where they will regain their full health instantly. Notably, while retreating, they will be invulnerable to attacks. Also, once defeated, a Spider Toad will respawn after one hundred seconds.
